Federico Cura

Federico Cura is an Arlington, Va.-based media relations consultant who gives workshops in the Washington, D.C. area on what some deem the next generation of progressive rhetoric, which aims at political persuation by framing and reframing issues in terms of progressive/mainstream values and morality. Cura has worked hard to promote a progressive/mainstream values movement by distributing hundreds of laminated credit card-size cards featuring a creative values circle that he created as well as enhnaced-messaging tips. Cura gained most of his professional experience working as a trade journalist in Washington-mostly covering transportation and energy issues. Nevertheless, Cura has experience in nearly every form of communications including radio, television, alternative weeklies, website design, and corporate-targeted risk communications. He serves as Latinos for America national blog manager. Last year, he was involved in a major media relations and public outreach campaign sponsored by the Sallie Mae Fund to increase Latino/Hispanic participation at colleges and universities nationwide. In the months prior to the 2004 elections, he assisted the Kerry Campaign on Latino outreach in association with Chambers Lopez & Gaitán LLC, and appeared in a Spanish-language television spot. Cura and his family also assisted the Kerry Campaign in fundraising. Cura's participation in voter registration efforts last year earned him the recognition of the League of Women Voters. Until mid 2004, Cura worked for four years in the Communications & Marketing department of the American Public Transportation Association. Born in New Jersey and raised in Argentina, Cura returned to the U.S. in 1985 and obtained a Bachelor's in Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also tought Spanish and worked as a video producer. He lived in Central Texas for 10 years and considers Austin a second home. He serves his community as an appointed member of Arlington's Transportation Commission, and as the elected treasurer of the Clarendon-Courthouse Civic Association. He is the proud father of a 2-year-old daughter. Federico Cura: f.cura@verizon.net
